That’s right! Fremont has a new wedding venue, the Fremont Mischief Distillery! It is truly an awesome place to have an outside wedding. It’s right next to the canal, just far enough away from what hustle and bustle Fremont has, but close enough to be in one of Seattle’s best neighborhoods. I was also honored to be the first to photograph a wedding there! How cool is that? I’m telling you, it is very cool!
You want to know the best thing about this venue? This is where Kathryn and Jennifer got married! I would have been happy to photograph their wedding at any venue though, because they were the ideal couple for me. There is so much emotion swirling all around them that it’s easy to capture their love and energy, and I love me some expressive candid photo ops! They also were searching for a fun Seattle wedding photographer, which is perfect because that’s what I like to portray in my portfolio, and fun couples are who I enjoy working with the most. I mean, you can’t really beat a mid-ceremony high-five involving everyone at the wedding!

I could gush on and on about these ladies and their wedding, but I’ll let them speak for themselves:
• Tell the one thing you love most about each other.
Kathryn: I love how down-to-earth and genuine Jen is.
Jen: I love that Kathryn has a youthful spirit, with so much life and fun. She’s generous and loving and giving.
• If you feel comfortable, share something silly or quirky that the other person does.
Kathryn: I love that at any given moment, Jen might be intensely looking at her computer screen as if working, and really she’s watching funny otter and kitten videos.
Jen: It would be kind of tough to choose one thing. I really like that Kathryn is both silly and quirky. Maybe it’s that she likes to do impressions, so she has a repertoire of funny voices – usually I’m not sure who she’s imitating, but it’s fun to guess. We both like games, too, so she regularly makes games out of everyday life.
• Besides getting married, what’s the one thing you’re looking forward to on your wedding day?
Kathryn: I’m looking forward to spending time with family and friends, many of whom I haven’t seen in quite some time.
Jen: Same here. We’re both very close to our families, and we love opportunities to get together with them. They haven’t all met, so it will be fun to see them get to know each other.
• Besides the honeymoon, what’s the one thing you’re looking forward to when the wedding is over?
Kathryn: While I realize this is for a blog by our photographer, so it might seem biased, but it’s true that what I’m most looking forward to is seeing the pictures of the day, with all of our family and closest friends, because those times don’t happen often, when we can all be together. I want to sit with Jen and soak in the memories of what I hope to be an amazing day, to kick off an amazing life with this person.
Jen: Not having to plan so much! I am excited to just get to enjoy life with Kathryn and figure out some of our dreams, travel together, and continue to have a great time being friends.
• What’s your favorite wedding trend right now?
Kathryn: The DIY mentality. I love that people are going on Pinterest and sharing ideas and making it their own, so that no matter how traditional the ceremony, it can still be very unique to the couple.
Jen: I also love the DIY aspect of weddings, and I especially like how many rustic themed weddings there are – we used a lot of that inspiration for our own. I love wood elements and mason jars and mismatched chairs, recycled materials. Those things make a wedding to me feel beautiful but also casual and relaxed.
• What inspired your décor or theme?
Jen: I wanted to wear blue shoes with my wedding dress, so I chose blue as a color that I wanted in the wedding, and Kathryn chose chocolate brown – we actually didn’t know at the time how popular that color combination is. And, wood and trees came about because the place where we’re getting married is all wood paneled, and was a compromise for us – a place that has a bit urban natural rustic.
Kathryn: And I chose brown because I knew that I wanted to wear cowboy boots with my dress, which fit into the rustic idea.
• What’s one thing you wish you would have known earlier in regards to planning?
Kathryn: I wish I would have known that no matter how much you do get done at the beginning, it still feels like there’s always something left to do!
Jen: That even though it made me crazy that Kathryn wanted to plan things way earlier than I would have, it’s made the time leading up to the wedding feel more manageable. We were able to get the major issues decided fairly early and can now concentrate on fun things like beautiful invitations, our engagement session, and decorations.
And, if you haven’t already seen it, you might want to check out the post from their engagement photography session at The Olympic Sculpture Park here.
