When Katy and Brad were looking for a wedding photographer, they searched for “Seattle Travel Photographer” and my name popped up. Not only was I happy that my name appeared in that search, but I was thrilled that they valued travel enough to qualify their wedding photographer by searching for one in that way. Soon after meeting this fun, silly couple, I knew that we were a great match… especially after I heard their plans for their Fremont Solstice wedding!
For those of you who don’t know, Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood is famous (at least locally) for it’s big, artsy Summer Solstice Fair. The Fremont Solstice Fair’s biggest event is the parade that starts off with mostly nude, body-painted bicyclists. After that, the spectacle is slightly less provocative, but just as outrageous and spectacular.
Katy and Brad are creative souls and lovers of their neighborhood of Fremont, so they made themselves a part of the parade! A dedicated group of family and friends joined them in flamboyant costumes alongside their decorated float, which served as their altar both during multiple “ceremonies” in the parade and afterwards inside the Fremont Abbey. The parade ceremonies involved giant rings, loud outfits, and crazy amounts of fun. The momentum of the parade carried through to the Fremont Abbey wedding ceremony, where members of the wedding party danced down the aisles and lounged on couches next to the altar. The Fremont Abbey ceremony and reception were just a little more traditional though, with typical wedding garb and father/daughter, mother/son dances.
While rushing through “formal” photos tends to happen at most weddings, I was concerned that Katy and Brad wouldn’t have enough photos in their more traditional wedding clothes, so I invited them to do some make up photos at sunset on another day. Fortunately this happened to be during one of Seattle’s most spectacular sunsets of 2015. I’m not exaggerating! This sunset actually made the news! Anyway, Katy and Brad are a fabulous couple and I was so happy to have the pleasure of working with them on such a unique event! I wish them all the best!
PS: We might be seeing more from Katy in the local wedding industry! It takes a special kind of person to organize and coordinate such a complex series of events. Let me know if you need an awesome planner and I’ll send you her way!
